I compiled this list for a colleague of mine and as this could be useful to others as well I am posting it on the blog. Feel free to add if I have missed any places.
1. Visit Charminar and surrounding areas
2. Shop for the world famous Hyderabadi bangles at Lad Bazaar around Charminar
3. Shop for Pearls at Charminar or any other pearl showrooms. Hyderabad is very famous for its pearls and the rates are said to be very reasonable here than in other places.
4. One can also take the heritage walk in Charminar, it is conducted in the early morning hours - http://www.aptdc.in/heritage_walks/ -
5. There are five walks that aptdc (Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development corporation) conducts and if interested one can choose to do the other walks as well.
6. Visit Chow Mohalla palace
7. Visit Golconda Fort
8. Visit Qutub Shahi tombs
9. Visit Paigah Tombs and Raymond tomb – Might not be very interesting, not sure of this
10. Visit Falaknuma Palace
11. Visit Salarjung Museum
12. Eat the “Famous” ice cream in Mozamjahi market - The USP here is you get flavors like custard apple (in season now), Chikoo etc., which are not available easily.
13. Check out the Numaaish (This is seasonal from Jan 1st to 15th Feb), the trick is to go early and return early and to do it on a week day to avoid crowds.
14. Shop in Koti/ Sultan bazaar – This is still an old market so the shopping experience is different than shopping at malls or stores.
15. Shop in Abids/ Ameerpet/ Dilsukhnagar/Kukutpally area – The standard stores and malls
16. Visit Nehru zoological park – has a decent collection of animals, but is not very green IMHO.
17. Visit Mrugvani national park (a little dicey though as the number of animals you spot is based on many factors like weather, time that you choose to visit or as they say pure luck)
18. Visit Shamirpet Deer Park
19. Visit Indira Park
20. Visit Birla Mandir and Birla Planetarium
21. Visit Lumbini Gardens and catch the musical fountain show
22. Visit NTR gardens, there are lots of rides for kids here
23. Visit snow world (I was not too impressed with this as the snow had compressed into ice and was greyish) - ideawise it is fun to experience snow and walk into a big frezeer box.
24. Visit the Jal Vihar water park at Tankbund - I am told that the quality of water here is much better than other places and yes we did not fall sick after having played in this water.
25. Take a boat ride at Tankbund and go to the Buddha statue and later have dinner on eat street. Eat street has an amusement area for kids that include rides too and could be an evening out by itself
26. Visit KBR Park - Take a nice long walk and check out the peacocks too.
27. Visit Shilparamam ans hop for handmade goods and attend classes
28. Visit Durgam Cheruvu
29. Hang out at the Malls (City center and a whole lots of other malls)
30. Checkout an IMAX movie at PVR or INOX
Now for day trip kind of spots to visit
